Romantics believed in the natural goodness of humans which is hindered by the urban life of civilization. They believed that the savage is noble, childhood is good and the emotions inspired by both beliefs causes the heart to soar.
Romantics believed that knowledge is gained through intuition rather than deduction. This is best summed up by Wordsworth who stated that “all good poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.”
Romantics legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority.
Realistically, don’t assume or expect too much. Also, don’t be affected or be carried out by our emotions just because we are excited of something. We should be informative or we should be sure about something before we make our decisions in life, otherwise we might get in trouble or bad things will happen.
Below is our short story for the day.
“Mr. Nash Jackson!” my teacher said. My head automatically turned around and saw him standing beside the door. Oh, he’s late again.
“Fine, take your sit. Be sure you won’t do this thing again.” Then he took his seat beside my chair. This is what I love when I became a college student, you can sit wherever you want. I saw him in my peripheral view with his earphones on and his eyes closed. He’s so freaking handsome! I stared at him for a couple of seconds and suddenly he opened his eyes.
“It’s rude to stare. You know?” I felt myself blush. Why did I fall in love with you?
“S-Sorry.” That was all I could manage to say. Ugh, I hate it when I stammer. He removed his earphones and listened to what our teacher was saying. Oh! He’s not in the mood because of you! I told myself. I’ve never been so in love like this before, but when I met him, something changed. I quickly faced my notebook and took down notes.
I was in the cafeteria with my best friend, Ashley. I left the room and Nash was still there. I hope he’s okay.
“Hey! Alex, are you listening to me?” Oh, I don’t know that she’s talking to me.
“Hey. What’s up?” I said. She rolled her eyes and took a sip of tea.
“You know what? I saw—“Her eyes widened and she’s totally stared at my back. I faced my back and saw Carter who was definitely at the back of our table. He must be in love with Carter.
Carter looked towards our direction and we met each other’s eyes. We broke our connection when his friend called him. He stood up and left the cafeteria. What was that for? I felt dumbfounded with his eyes. It was really captivating. No! I shook my head with that thought.
“Alex!” Ashley shouted
“What?” I asked her and she left me. I knew that Ashley can be mad easily. Months ago, her mother said to me that I should took care of her because of her mental illness or should I say that she’s a bit psychopath. Don’t get me wrong but I’m not a psychopath like her.
“Hey! What’s wrong?” I followed her. She didn’t say anything and left me again. Maybe her illness was attacking again? I just don’t know.
I went in the library and read some books I love. That was my hobby. Suddenly, a guy sat beside me. I was facing the book I was reading so I can’t see his face. This might be Nash! But I knew that he was the type of guy who wouldn’t go to a place like this. I was starting to get annoyed by this guy. He was staring at me since he came here! I’ve decided to face him.
“What’s wrong, Mr. Carter?” I finally said. This guy was so annoying!
“You don’t know how much I love y-“he was cut when suddenly someone’s phone rang. That boy said sorry to us and went outside.
“Do you love what?” I asked him
“Nothing, bye” He said
“Okay.” He smiled at me and went outside. As he closed the door, I returned back to reading this book I was holding. To my surprised, Ashley appeared in front of me. I didn’t intend to slap her face because she was looking at me intently. She took my hand and dragged me outside of the library.
“I’m sorry. You startled me.” I said with a low tone. She knitted her eyebrows and slapped me hard.
“You know what?! You’re flirting with Carter!” she shouted and slapped me again. Me? Flirting? I don’t even know him personally. I faced her and said,
“I didn’t do anything wrong!”
“You? Didn’t do anything wrong? Don’t be so ridiculous!” she said sarcastically. I can’t say anything. She was totally different. She was not my best friend.
“You don’t know that he’s madly in love with you? You don’t know how jealous I am when I see his eyes spark every time he looks at you?” she said harshly. I was dumbfounded on what she had said. I can’t think properly. She was madly in love with him.
“If you can’t say or do something good to me, you have to take care of yourself.” She said and left me puzzled.
Days passed and it was already December, Ashley was still not talking to me. Carter and I became friends though I think it was not a good thing. Nash and I have a progress! That was totally amazing.
“What’s up, beautiful?” Nash appeared at my back and put his arms around my shoulder. He always did this though we’re not even a couple but how I wish.
“I’m fine.” I said and we both went outside the campus.
“So, you want a ride? I have to tell you something.” he said as he opened the door of his car but my phone rang.
“Oh wait.” I said and answered the call. That was my mom. She said that I should pass by in our shop because they were on a trip.
“Sorry. I need to go, maybe next time!” He sighed and he went to his car. We said our goodbyes to each other.
“Maybe this is not the time.” He said. I’m about to ask him but he drove off. I have to ask him after I went to the store and I have to tell him something important ever since. I went inside of my own car and started to drive.
It was so freaking traffic. A black car rapidly came in my direction. So I did not bother, ignored the car and kept on driving. As it approached something caught my eye, the car was changing lane ending driving the wrong way exactly on my path. I tried to draw the other driver's attention by blinking the lights and as the car approached I even honk the horn but the driver of the other car did not react and fast approaching head on. So I kept on honking and counting the seconds which remain until the impact in just 5 seconds. I prepared myself for the collision and as it happened I closed my eyes, using my other senses, I heard the shattered glass and the twisting of metal. As I am pushed forward with the impact of explosion that hit me hard on my face and something was pulled me back. It was the airbag and safety belt. Then I heard nothing but silence, I think I'm dead but know that I am still breathing. I heard voices around me; someone said we cannot pull her out. A male voice told me don't worry lady, you'll be fine. I cannot feel the pain and my whole body is numb and everything went black.
Flashback*
“Alex, my daddy said that we’re going to Paris tomorrow and he said that we’re not able to see each other.” The boy said to me.
“Why? It’s my 12th birthday tomorrow.” I said
“I’m sorry. I’ll promise to marry you someday. Take this picture.” He gave me his picture and I kept it inside my wallet. He hugged me tight.
“I’m going to miss you and –“
End*
“Alex?” I slowly opened my eyes. It’s all white. I saw a guy beside me. He was actually tall, and all I can say, he’s handsome.
“Who are you?” I asked him. His face changed into confusion. Why? Why am I here? Where are my parents? Who is he?
Then, a doctor came in and I heard what he said to the guy.
“Mr. Carter, the patient was stable right now but she has a temporary amnesia. She can go home tomorrow and here’s the prescription of her medics.”
As the doctor left us inside the room, I have to talk to him.
“Hey. Who are you? Why am I here?” I asked him.
“I’m Carter. I’m your..” he was like having a doubt on what he would say.
“Your?”
“I’m your boyfriend. Remember me?” he said. My jaw dropped and I stiffened. Seriously? Me? Maybe, I don’t know what happened to me when I don’t have this temporary memory loss.
“Seriously?” I was puzzled. I just can’t believe it.
“Yes. You don’t remember me? It hurts me so bad.” He pouted.
“O-okay.” I said.
Months had passed; a girl named Ashley was the cause of the accident. I don’t know who was she to do that to me. Carter and I were getting closer. He was sweet, romantic and I can say that he’s the one perfect for me. I bothered myself when I remember the picture. That picture.
“Carter, I’m nervous.” I said. He is going to introduce me with his parents. We were on the front of their door, to be exact.
“Don’t worry baby. I’m here.” He held my hand tight. We came in and saw a beautiful woman in the mid-40’s and a handsome tall man who actually looks like him definitely.
“Hi mom, dad. She’s my girlfriend, Alex.” I kissed her mom and dad’s cheek.
“You’re very pretty. By the way, Carter, we’re going to your brother’s house.” His mom said. His dad just nodded.
“Thank you, m-mom.” I said. She smiled at me and his parents left after a couple of minutes because of their works.
We were sitting on the sofa and my head on his shoulder.
“Baby, can I see your room? Please?” I pouted.
“Okay-okay. Don’t do that! I might kiss you.” Then he smiled at me.
We went upstairs then to his room. Wow! A mixed of black and white. I looked around and something caught my eyes. The picture! I quickly ran towards it and there it was!
“Baby, is that you?”
“Well, it’s n-“To my excitement, I didn’t let him finish his words. I hugged him tight. I finally saw him!
“I love you. Remember the time when you promised me that you’ll marry me when we were kids?” he looked like confused, maybe he is remembering it. Then he said,
“Ah. Y-yeah why?”
“I’m going to say yes!”
It was already March. Carter and I were married. We were here in the living room, we cuddled. Then someone knocked on the door. A tall man and they were totally alike, but this guy has blue eyes. He stared at me and it was like he was in the state of shock. My head suddenly hurt as hell, something was wrong. It was like he was in my past. Ugh, I just can’t remember it. My husband stood up and hugged the guy.
“Hey bro!” My husband said. They were brothers.
“Hey! How’s life?” the guy said. My husband smiled at me and he didn’t say something. Suddenly, his phone rang and leave me with this guy.
“You’re Alex, right?”
“Yeah. Who are you?” I hate it. I can’t remember new.
“I’m Nash. Your husband’s brother and um.., you don’t remember me? By the way, congratulations.” I shook my head. He stood up and a picture fell from his pocket. That was my husband’s picture when we’re kids.
“That’s Carter, right?” I asked even though I already knew the answer.
“No. This is me, when I’m 12 years old. Now, you remember me?” He asked and smiled at me. A smile with loneliness. I stiffened and realized something. I can’t blame someone. I can’t. I’m sorry. My head hurt again.
“Hi! You’re new here?” a boy asked me
“Can we be friends?”
“Hey! Alex! I’m lucky that I met you.”
“Can I ask you for lunch?”
“I have you tell you something.. I-I like you.”
“Alex Nicole Xanderfield-Jackson. Nice name.”
“Alex. I’m lucky that I met you. I’ve said this many times but it’s true.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll promise to marry you someday. Take this picture.”
“I love you.”
“I-I’m s-sorry.” I said as the tears fell from my eyes and I fainted.
Many years passed. The color of my hair continuously fades.
I was about to leave our lawn when I saw our mailbox. I’ve never checked this for about a year. I checked it and saw 2 mails. I read it as I go to my destination.
“Sorry. I don’t know how many times I should say this to you. Forgive me, I’m sorry. I’m so selfish just to let you go. I know that I’m that bastard. I know that you’ll not come back from me but it freaking hurts me. How I wish I could turn back the time that we’re okay. No lies. Forgive me. Now, I’m letting you go.” –Carter Jackson
“I don’t know if I should say this but my heart says ‘do it!’. I’ve been waiting for you for so long. Remember the picture? The picture I gave you before we leave? It means so much to me. I hope you didn’t lose it. I hope you’ll remember me when you see me. I’m sorry. I didn’t tell you that I have to go to Paris just to take the chance to cure my disease, Schizophrenia. It’s very hard. I can’t think properly. I love you but you love someone else. Maybe this is the time I should let you go, it’s too much. I love you but I consider my life worth nothing without you. Goodbye.” –Nash Jackson
He committed suicide. How I wish I could turn back the time. The time we were supposed together. The time that he’s the one I should talk to. That he’s the one I should kiss. The one that I can say ‘I love you’. How I missed that. I never thought he’ll be part of my life. I regret all of the things I’ve done. How I wish I could turn back the time to correct the choices that I have made. But what's done is done. I now have to face the music. I have so much pain that I can barely contain myself from breaking down. I am an emotional wreck, an emotional wreck. I was sitting on the grass beside his grave.
“I’m sorry.” That was all I can say. It hurts me so bad. I’m holding a picture. A picture of my love. A picture of Nash Jackson. A picture of him.
It is such a great story! I wasn't able to predict what will happen next. The plot twist is amazing. Too bad it has a disconsolate ending.
