Wazzup Pilipinas!
EMC Corporation is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service. Fundamental to this transformation is cloud computing. Through innovative products and services, EMC accelerates the journey to cloud computing, helping IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyze their most valuable asset — information — in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way.
The company recently released the findings of a survey that asked IT decision makers in the Philippines, specifically 235 responses coming from 175 companies, for their perspective on IT’s role as an enabler of business change during the shift towards the mega trends of cloud, mobile, social and Big Data.
At a media briefing held at the Makati Shangri-La by EMC Corporation Philippines Country Manager Ronnie Latinazo and EMC Corporation Asia Pacific and Japan Vice President David Wirt, the members of the media got the opportunity to hear out the results of the survey and what they reveal specifically for the country.
Collected during a non-mandatory questionnaire after completion of registration for the EMC Forum event held in Manila, Philippines, this research polled a total of 235 business and IT management and executives, technical architects, data scientists and storage/infrastructure managers from a range of Filipino businesses.
The impact of the mega trends has fundamentally changed the expectations of consumers and end-users who increasingly want to interact online, anytime and from anywhere, making IT more strategically important than ever before. IT has been focused on creating efficiencies and driving down cost. But the EMC Forum Survey reveals that in Philippines, IT is now viewed as a strategic enabler to grow business and better connect with customers. The top three areas where these trends will have an impact are in: improving customer experience (51%), management of mission-critical business operations (41%) and building new products and services (38%).
Organizations are increasingly moving to the cloud, with 67% now agreeing that combining public and private cloud can improve security and agility. However, barriers will need to be overcome to achieve full potential.
• 78% of respondents in Philippines report that their CXOs consider IT as a strategic lever to grow the business, now more than ever before
• The top three business priorities when implementing new technologies in organizations from Philippines are: automating processes (51%), enhancing customer experience (45%) and delivering savings and finding efficiencies (44%).
• 73% of respondents in Philippines agree that their organization sees the increasing role of automation – such as software defined storage – as critical to business growth.
Taking advantage of the Mega Trends
• 64% of respondents in Philippines expect next-generation technologies such as mobile, social, cloud and big data to give their organization a competitive advantage
• Over the next year, the top areas where respondents expect to see an influence from these megatrends are: improving customer experience (51%), management of mission-critical business operations (41%) and building new products and services (38%)
• As businesses operate increasingly online today, 67% of respondents identified a need for joint public and private cloud services – hybrid cloud – as a means for greater agility and security
Future of IT
• Only 76% of respondents in Philippines believe their organization has the right level of skills and knowledge to complete business priorities successfully.
• Almost 1 in 2 (46%) believe that getting I.T. staff trained to keep pace with the implications of technology megatrends will be a challenge for their organization over the next few years
• Although 78% of companies see IT as a business enabler, the majority of companies (72%) believe that spending for technology was outside of IT’s control – indicating there is still work for IT to do in gaining trust from decision makers
• 70% believe that the model IT department of the future will act as the in-house provider of on-demand services including platform-as-a-service and public and private cloud
