Sulyap 2: Introducing a New Batch of Pinoy Comic Book Artists
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Komikon aims to continue publishing an independent comic book anthology annually to encourage more budding creators out there to continue honing their skills and to showcase the broad offering of Filipino comics. This is why they created Sulyap that was launched last November 13, 2010 at the 6th Annual Filipino Komiks Convention at the Starmall Trade Hall, EDSA cor Shaw Blvd, Mandaluyong City.
Sulyap is a collection of short Filipino independent komiks works, featuring the works of 8 young and talented comics writers, some of whom started out by joining the Komikon contests and Komikon Indie Comics Tiange. The featured stories and their creators are:
Ambition by Ian Olympia, Baboy 1&2 by Mel Casipit, Goodbye Rubbit by RH Quilantang, Kalayaan by Gio Paredes, Lipad by Rommel Estanislao, Maktan 1521 by Tepai Pascual, Taal Monster vs Evil Space Paru-paro by Macoy, and Windmills: Bearkdowns by Josel Nicolas
Sulyap was designed and compiled by Jon Zamar, with a foreword by Gerry Alanguilan and cover art by Melvin “Taga-ilog” Calingo. As a bonus, Taga-ilog’s Primer on Making Your Own Comic Book was also included.
Now, the people responsible for this ultimate project are introducing the 2nd batch of comic artists to be part of Sulyap 2. Get to know more about them here:
Meet the first independent comics creator to be part of the Sulyap 2 Roster 2nd batch. Ronzkie Pacho Vidal of Ikos Komiks!
Meet Francis Martelino of Komikult, creator of the outrageously funny, The Hotdog Prince. We're proud to announce that he is part of Sulyap Batch 2!
Meet our third member of Sulyap Batch 2. The amazingly talented Carlorozy Clemente of Mechanical Kawayan, creator of the delightfully evil Darwin's Association of Delicious Evilness.
One of the freshest face in the Indie Tiangge in recent years, Nino Balita and his light and quirky action-adventure title Espiritista joins our already talented roster of Sulyap2 Artists.
Big battle, big adventure, big creator (literally). A giant of a comic book creator with a gigantic knack for action, Jonas Lechuga of Section Six Comics brings his title, Big Battle Hero Bulas to Sulyap 2!
Bringing a sense of the dark and the mysterious to our roster for the 2nd Sulyap book is JP "Anbuzitis" De Torres of Spanton Productions and his awesome comic boook, Luna!
Introducing Lariz Santos, an insanely talented artist with several Komikon Comics Creation and other Komikon art contest wins under his belt. His entry to this year's Sulyap is his award winning entry Please be careful with my Bones,a humorous look at a post apocalyptic setting.
Rounding up our extremely talented list are two of the most amazing young comic book creators of this generation. Noel Pascual's unique Filipino wit and humor coupled with AJ Bernardo's mastery of dynamic storytelling and illustration makes Crime Fighting Call Center Agents a most fitting centerpiece for Sulyap's second batch.
This collaboration is definitely something to look forward to. We've seen how great Sulyap is and the new batch of artists are probably itching to make it a lot better for its second offering to all Pinoy komiks fans, followers, collectors, and enthusiasts out there who simply can't enough of Filipino masterpieces.
