Indoor Ultimate Developmental League 2014: Congratulations to the Winners!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Ultimate is a low-contact team field sport played with a plastic flying disc known as a Frisbee. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone, similar to an end zone in American football or the in-goal area in rugby. Needless to say, the game is fast-paced and adrenaline-rising as both teams try to out-skill each other using their speed and stamina in manipulating the Frisbee.

Anticipating where the Frisbee will fly off and how they will effectively send it to a team mate without the opposing team blocking its path. Normally its played outdoors so seeing it played in the convenience of a gym was pleasing to those who shy away from sports played under the sun where the elements add further stress and challenge to an already delicate and precision sport.

The Indoor Ultimate Developmental League (IUDL) is a momentous event since this is the very first time an Ultimate Frisbee is played indoors. We are sending our congratulations to all the teams who placed in the first IUDL!

The January 31 and February 1 schedule allowed many to participate as January 31 was declared a holiday because of Chinese New Year and February 1 was a Saturday.

The College of Human Kinetics Gym was the venue of the Indoor Ultimate Developmental League (IUDL).

A bit difficult to reach since the UP Ikot jeepneys do not directly pass by it so you need to walk a few more steps to reach it.

When I arrived at the venue there were a lot of students doing different sports activities. What caught my attention for being something new was the Floorball game - something similar to ice hockey but you don't play on ice and you hit a ball with holes towards the opposing teams goal.

The Wazzup Pilipinas logo can be seen on the IUDL 2014 tarp along with the logos of other sponsors and media partners.

The day schedule is being written on the whoteboard by one of the IUDL organizers. I pointed out that its already Day 2 so she could correct the typo.

The organizers busy preparing for Day 2 of the IUDL. The gym was divided into three fields (courts) where two teams per field (courts) battle against each other.

Another copy of the schedule being updated with the current gameplay results.

The Frisbee! Many people have claimed to have invented the Frisbee but we can never really be accurate on the factual history. All we are sure of is that its a fun sport requiring dedication and discipline to the players.

You know who you are so consider this a great achievement being pioneers in the Indoor Ultimate Developmental League. You should be proud initiating this event.

It is majestic when you see players seemingly flying towards the direction of the Frisbee and gracefully catching the disc with their quick reflexes.

It is really an awesome spectacle, and we are surely amazed of how the youth go into sport, not only for health and fitness buffs, but for enjoyment with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
