A Thousand Meals for UP Tacloban Benefit Concert

The Congress of Teachers and Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (CONTEND) in the University of the Philippines Diliman will be launching a campaign dubbed as “A Thousand Meals for UP Tacloban” through a benefit concert on January 30, 2014 at the UP Diliman Amphitheater.

“A Thousand Meals for UP Tacloban” campaign aims to address the needs of UP Tacloban students and staff who were devastated by Typhoon Yolanda last November 8, 2013. This activity is in response to the call to continuously and consistently support the survivors after the initial phase of relief operations last year. In fact, the survivors need more support and assistance of all members of the community at this time.

Primarily, this event is a fund-raising drive to provide meals to UP Tacloban students and staff. It is also a venue to raise the level of awareness of the community regarding the issues and concerns after the disaster and the challenges ahead.

Mechanics:

“A Thousand Meals for UP Tacloban” campaign will be launched through a benefit concert at the UP Diliman Amphitheater. CONTEND UP will be selling tickets two weeks before January 30, 2014 to raise at least 1000 meals for UP Tacloban students and staff.

Every ticket is worth PhP 100.00 (standard amount of 3 meals/student/day). Thus, one ticket sold means that you help one student/staff secure his/her meal requirement for a day. Every ticket also entitles you a chance to win an artwork courtesy of UP Diliman College of Fine Arts faculty and students during the raffle at the concert.

Individuals, organizations and groups are most welcome to pledge or sponsor a number of meals depending on their capacity. A daily tally of tickets sold will be posted on the official page of CONTEND UP. On January 30, all the funds raised will be officially turned over to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) during the benefit concert.
