You might as well be in a world of pain and terror if you live and work in the modern city. The modern city inspires awe yet you can’t help but feel alienated and disconnected. Perhaps, through books and literature, you will be able to reach out to other characters that fill our tumultuous city.
The National Book Development Board presents Text and the City : The 4th Philippine International Literary Festival on November 11 to 15, in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies, De La Salle University Department of Literature, Ateneo de Manila University Rizal Library, University of the Philippines Institute of Creative Writing, and the Filipinas Heritage Library-Ayala Museum.
The occasion will highlight the best writers of the universities plus writers from all over the region who have made significant contributions to literature.
XU XI, Hong Kong-based writer of Access: Thirteen Tales willspeak in UST; KAMINI RAMACHANDRAN, Singapore-based international storyteller and JASMINE ANN CORRAY from London, poet and writer of everything we don't say will speak in DLSU; PETER SWIRSKI, Canadian scholar, literary critic, and writer of From Highbrow to Nobrow will speak in Ateneo; Singapore-based writer and SUCHEN CHRISTINE LIM, author of The River's Song, will speak in UP; and American national KRYS LEE, teacher at Yonsei University in Korea and writer of the short story collection Drifting House will speak at the Ayala Museum. Many other writers are expected to attend the festival.
"Text and the City" is a highlight of Philippine Book Development Month and will be held in a different venue each day: UST (Nov.11), DLSU (Nov.12), ADMU (Nov.13), UP (Nov.14), and the Ayala Museum (Nov.15).
