Earthquake in the Visayas : Cebu and Bohol Under State of Calamity

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"OMG! May giyera sa Mindanao, May lindol sa Visayas, at may bagyo naman ngayon sa Luzon. Apocalypse na ba?"
A State of Calamity was declared in Cebu and Bohol after a 7.2 earthquake struck at 8:12 AM on October 15 with a magnitude of 7.2, according to PHIVOLCS. The epicenter of the earthquake was estimated to be near Carmen, Bohol.

It was reported that the earthquake damaged at least 10 historic churches in Cebu and Bohol. I am so sad for the deaths, injuries and displacement, and of course for the destruction of our heritage structures. My prayers and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the dreadful disaster.

This tragedy in Bohol and Cebu is a good opportunity for several leaders to act decisively. Unfortunately the national government is quite indifferent and the bulk of the effort went to the local regional governments. I cannot blame why federalist tendencies are widespread, since it seems that Imperial Manila has no time to help the provinces extensively and this is why there is a widespread gap between the urban and the rural areas regarding revenue and overall development.

In the midst of these tragedies in the country recently, I watched how the Philippine Azkals were a sure win to the Peace Cup title. Congrats to the Azkals for winning the 2013 Peace Cup title! Should we jump for joy now?

  1. I feel sad that I can't do anything to support those victims of earthquake. The only thing that I could do now is to pray for them.
