Stranded! : Commuters Cry Out to MMDA
Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) new scheme to ease traffic in the Metro has caused a lot of commuters to cry out in frustration as many got themselves in a very unpleasant scenario. Many were stressed and confused, and some of them even got robbed by snatchers.
A great number of commuters from Cavite were stranded and delayed for work or school on the first day of the enforcement of the ban for provincial buses coming from Cavite. The provincial buses were no longer allowed from entering the metropolis and passengers needed to transfer to new means of transportation for Manila.
The situation was really "chaotic." A commuter has even said that the MMDA people should have tried commuting first so that they understand the situation of the carless masses. The MMDA should have at least consulted the commuters regarding this new traffic scheme.
According to the MMDA, all buses from Cavite will have to park at the Coastal Mall at the corner of Roxas Boulevard and MIA Road. Commuters can then transfer to jeepneys, vans, or other buses to get to their destination in Metro Manila.
However, there seems to be a great shortage of vehicles to transport them to either Lawton or EDSA.
"This is so unfair to those coming from the south." says another commuter from Kawit, Cavite.
There seems to be also no clear procedure or system. The buses did not know where to turn or to go.The lines for those going to the metro or to the provinces were not clear. The drivers were not properly oriented. There was no coordination with the traffic authorities.
The waiting area was super small. It was very early in the morning, but it couldn’t accommodate the passengers going home.
Please give the integrated terminal a chance to work. I know somebody must have made a few errors in the planning but things like that happen because nobody is perfect. To all fellow commuters, please be considerate and follow directional instructions. It may be difficult to think clearly and calmly because there was really not enough means of transportation but we won't be helping our country if we hate everyone whose only reason for doing it was to try to improve the traffic situation for all of us. Please do not add further chaos to the chaotic situation brought about by the reforms to ease out traffic congestion in Metro Manila. Just give your suggestions and I'm sure the authorities are trying their best to listen and re-plan their scheme.
