Wazzup Pilipinas!
We Filipinos definitely love to eat. That's probably why there's a multitude of food and restaurant establishments mushrooming all over the Philippines. More and more foreign cuisines are penetrating our archipelago with many variety of food choices making our dining experience an awesome adventure. Almost every corner of the Metro has a resto or a mini food stall in place trying their luck to become a favorite hang-out of foodies.
But nothing beats our Filipino cuisine masters for making great efforts in trying their best to match the delicacies offered by our neighboring countries. Have you noticed that there has been a proliferation of chefs as well? Schools have also opened up a curriculum designed to explore the wonders of commercial cooking. Even celebrities have joined the band-wagon of becoming a culinary guru. It will be no surprise if I soon hear one of my neighbor becoming one as well.
Now there's this restaurant at Market Market that's now making a name for itself for being revolutionary in its offering of Filipino dishes. The Fried Hito above may look weird but trust me, it taste really good.
Oriang by Cafe De Bonifacio provides a fusion of modern plus classic Filipino dishes to further revolutionize Filipino cuisine into the next level. It's like what our mothers and grandparents used to cook for us during family weekend gatherings but with a special twist to elevate it a little bit further to the satisfaction of the ever-changing taste of both local and foreign patrons.
The restaurant got its name from Gregoria de Jesús, also known as Aling Oriang, the founder and vice-president of the women’s chapter of the Katipunan of the Philippines, but more popularly known as the wife of Andres Bonifacio, and then later on married Julio Nakpil, another Filipino nationalist, manifesting her love for men who love their country.
They say it is but fitting to name the restaurant after her because of how exceptional, modern and revolutionary both men in her life were.
Oriang is also one of the sponsors for the 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit. This is where we had a meetup to discuss updates regarding the grand event to be held at the Cultural Center of Laguna on October 15 and 16. The Laguna Blogging Summit is now gearing up to present the biggest social media event in Laguna showcasing high-caliber thought leaders ready and able to provide the attendees very informative discussions about social media and blogging related topics. You can check more about the event at the official website : http://www.labsph.com
Below are just some of the revolutionary dishes available at Oriang:
You have to try their one of our best-selling appetizers, the Crispy Tawilis! As what they say "Ang tunay na Pinoy, kinakain ang buong isda (tinik at lahat). Mas masarap kung ang isda'y hindi boneless (hindi uso ang "fillet")." Because of its delish crispiness, you can eat the entire fish - no leftovers is a must!
"When was the last time you had Tinola? Perfect for a rainy afternoon. At Oriang, their Tinola is mixed with coconut strips and juice, for a unique and exciting flavor. Try their Binakol na Manok. " It's definitely not your usual tinola mixed with "papaya" and "dahon ng sili". Truly revolutionary in taste!
During the rainy season, there's nothing more pleasurable in sipping a hot soup or beef broth. "Kapag pumapatak na naman ang ulan... sa bubong ng bahay (o opisina) - Hot Bullalo Soup ang katapat."
"Love Bagnet? Love Bagoong? How about we combine the two? Subukan ang aming kakaibang Binangoonang Bagnet! Crunchy, sweet and sour. Bagay na bagay sa kanin." This dish is heavenly addicting. Though you're gonna break your diet on this one because it will definitely put some added cholesterol and fat - but we need to indulge ourselves with great tasting dishes even just a few times in our lifetime. So dig in and give in to the temptation.
Be adventurous and try out the rest of their exciting dishes. Check out the menu below:
Here is what my fellow blogger had to say about their "Okoy":
"I am just always craving with our local Okoy and when Oriang served their very own version of Oriang Okoy, I took the spicy vinegar at the table and digged in right away. Oriang Okoy is a crispy pancake with tiny shrimps. Holding the crunchy shrimps together is a special batter made from sweet potato and squash. A new twist with the usual Okoy."
He was also satisfied with the other Filipino dishes served to them:
"Oriang let us feast on Oriang Tuyo Rice generously with dried “Tuyo” and loads of garlic served with all-time Filipino favorites like Pinakbet with Liempo & Chicharon, Boneless Bistek Bangus and Chicken Inasal with ppickled shallots. It was a deletable dinner meeting for my group. We always like our very own dishes. Palitaw with Ube Halaya was the dessert, two in one while drinking Pandan Iced Tea."
Those amazing testimonials of remarkable dining experience should be enough reasons for everyone to try out what Oriang has to offer when you get an opportunity to visit their restaurant. I bet you'll soon be taking your whole family there and having a blast enjoying their revolutionary Filipino meals....and perhaps you'd want to marry the chef, or the main man behind the kitchen, for coming out with great food our country can be very proud of.
Oriang is available for reservation, and is open from Monday to Sunday, from 11am to 12 midnight. For more information, call (02) 625-0597.
