Does this dish reminds you of our very own Kare-Kare? Or Caldereta?
Well, this dish is the version of Japan which is called Kare Raisu (curry rice). It is a popular dish both at home and in casual dining establishments.
You can also try it with pork katsu for a delicious flavor combination! You can also add some of your favorite vegetables for your diet! Like lettuce, and cabbages, it's up to you!I'm almost like saying loudly "wow" when I see this picture of Kare Raisu. As you can see, there is the rice, that we also Filipinos really wanted in our daily meal. There is also the pork blended with the very juicy sauce. I'm starving now because by just looking at it, you can tell that this is a really delicious dish. And of course, if you are interested in Japan, you have to be also interested in there dishes.

The picture above is what we call Katsu Kare which will be used for Kare Raisu. It kinda looks like nasty in the picture but if you tasted it, you will be surprised for it's delicious taste.

The picture above is another picture of Kare Raisu but as you can see it is added with a hot pepper. So it really means that you can add some of your favorite side dishes. You can also add vegetables, some sort of meat, like the meat of cow, pig. You can also add your preferred type of rice, like fried rice and egg rice.
Now that you knew that it is possible to add some side dishes in Kare Raisu, what will you add?

Well, this article is nothing if I will not give the recipe, so here you go!
INGREDIENTS:
-butter, for frying
-1 large onion, thinly sliced
-2 large potatoes, cut into bite-sized chunks
-2 large carrots, cut into bite-sized chunks
-3-4 cubes of Japanese roux
-300g beeg, cut into chunks (braising or stewing steak is good)
-salt and pepper, to season
-water
-cooked Japanese rice, to serve
STEPS:
1. Season the beef with salt and pepper
2. Cook the beef in a pan with some butter until the chunks are browned all over. Remove from the pan and leave to one side.
3. Add the butter to a large pan and heat over a medium flame. Add the onion.
4. Cook for around 5 minutes until the onion becomes transluscent.
5. Add the carrots, potatoes and any other vegetables and stir.
6. Fill the pan up with enough water to completely cover all the ingredients.
7. Once boiled, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15 minutes, keeping an eye on the pan and removing any scum that appears on the surface.
8. Remove the pan fom the heat and allow to cool for a few moments. Add the curry roux and beef chunks, and stir well.
9. Replace on the heat, and leave to simmer on a medium to low heat for 15 minutes, or until the curry is thick and glossy.
10. Serve with cooked rice.
