Have you ever tasted tonkatsu? Me, I’ve tasted it many times because I have a friend who has an aunt who lived in Japan. She cooks it sometimes so I am able to taste it. It is so delicious especially the tonkatsu sauce …hmmmm… can’t resist. I’ve also tasted the tonktsu in Tokyo Tokyo, just like my friend’s aunt’s tonkatsu,it is so delicious. Also in our house, my mom cooks it because she searched its recipe on the internet.
I know you’re thinking what tonkatsu is.Let me introduce it to you. Tonkatsu originated in Japan. It is a Japanese style breade, deep-fried, and chopped pork. It is usually served with shredded cabbage. There are two types of tonkatsu, the hireand the rosu. In serving tonkatsu, it can either be served as a single dish or as a filling in a sandwich with curry, which is called katsu sando.
I will also tell you the easy steps on cooking tonkatsu. First, you have to cut the edge of the pork chops. Then, you season it with salt and pepper. After that, coat it with flour, dipit in the egg and coat it with panko bread crumbs. Heat the oil for deep-frying and deep-fry the breaded pork until it get cooked and browned. Put it on the paper towels to drain. Cut each pork into small pieces and serve with the shredded cabbage. Finally, pour the sauce before eating.
You can also make use of some alternatives if you don’t want pork. The examples are chicken katsu which uses chicken; menchi katsu which uses minced meat patty; ham katsu which uses ham; and gyu katsu which uses beef instead. You may choose what you want to use as an alternative for you to have less expenses.
Now you know some informations about tonkatsu. You know the background, the serving, the alternatives and especially the procedures in cooking it. You may try to cook it now. Serve it and eat it with your family and I’m sure they’ll like it so much.
I hope you learned and discovered a lot. Enjoy! Arigato Gozaimashita!
