Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Social Camp Innovation team thought you might like to know that the Social Innovation Camp Philippines 2013 call for ideas is now open!
We're looking for the best ideas that use technology to change stuff that matters. Over one weekend from September 13-15, 2013, we're bringing together some of the best of the software developers and designers with those at the sharp end of social problems at Manila.
Our mission will be to turn six back-of-the-envelope ideas that could change the world into social start-ups in under 48 hours – complete with working software.
You've got until August 02, 2013 to send us your idea that uses the web to create social change and you could be joining 80 other participants to try and make it a reality. The top team from SI Camp Philippines will join the top teams from other cities at the end of the year for a final regional camp.
Further details can be found at http://webgeek.ph/sicamp - or you can read on to find out more about how Social Innovation Camp works.
How it works
1) Think of an idea
Think of an idea that uses the web or mobile to create social change and send it to us through our website at http://webgeek.ph/sicamp by August 02, 2013
We're looking for the best ideas that use the web or mobile to change stuff that matters - be that in education, health care, the environment. There's only one thing that every idea must have in common: that they use the web or mobile to help people do something better for themselves.
You can find some hints for what makes a good Social Innovation Camp here: http://sicampasia.com/about/
2) We choose six of the best
From the ideas submitted through our website, Our judges choose six of the best to come to the Social Innovation Camp weekend on September 13-15, 2013 in Manila.
3) Get involved
We need the help of a huge range of people to make our six ideas a reality. Whether you're a software developer, a designer, you've got a business mind or you're someone who knows all about the problems we’re trying to solve, you can sign up to get involved at http://webgeek.ph/sicamp.
4) Camp!
From 6pm on September 13, 2013 until 6pm on September 15, 2013, we’ll be gathering around 100 people in Manila (Venue: TBA). They'll have just 48 hours to help turn our six back-of-the-envelope ideas into social start-ups in just two days - from hacking together software to working out how to grow a community of users.
5) Show and Tell
The weekend finishes with a Show and Tell pitching competition between our six teams and we’ll award a prize to the most impressive idea.
Who's it for?
Absolutely anyone can enter an idea: if you're a hacker with an itch to scratch, we want to hear from you - but you don't have to be technically skilled to get involved.
And to enter an idea, there's no need for you to be based in the areas. You are eligible as long as you can get yourself to the weekend event from September 13-15, 2013. So send us your idea!
So get thinking: you've only got until August 02, 2013 to send us your idea http://webgeek.ph/sicamp through our website.
