Mochi : Japanese Rice Cake

Mochi is a Japanese rice cake. The rice is pounded into paste and molded into the desired shape, and it always has a filling inside. Mochi are sweets in Japan and a multicomponent food consisting of polysaccharides, lipids, protein and water.

In Japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki. While also eaten year-round, mochi is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year and is commonly sold and eaten during that time.

The first time I ate mochi was this year 2013, because of my brother. He persuaded our mother to buy us a pack because he wanted try eating different kinds of food including sweets or desserts and I asked him why did he thought of buying a pack of mochi instead of other imported goods, and he answered, “Because it looked delicious.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   

 

When my mother and my brother went shopping at SM Taytay – I should have been the one to come with my mother but I was school while my brother was free, he had no classes because of a holiday – my brother saw packs of mochi, he picked up one and placed it at the cart. At first, my mother to it because of the price but my brother kept on pestering our mother like a little kid and in the end they brought it. The price was a little expensive because it was imported from Japan. My brother said it won’t be higher than P100 and lower than P50.

 

 

The pack of mochi consists of 10 pieces and it also differs from colors to flavors. Just like in what animes and mangas show, mochi is very sticky. For me, it looked cute and it tasted okay, it doesn’t mean it didn’t taste very good but I mean it didn’t suit my taste. Taste is very subjective, it depends on the person whether they like or not. For example, my brother said it was really good.

 

 

 

 

Over all, the Japanese rice cake is one very good product of the Japanese people or Nihonjin. There is nothing bad I can say about their presentation or how they present the food. The products they made also show the way they are, like when they make their products neat and clean.
