Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes : Brightens Up My Day
Wazzup Pilipinas!
A cupcake is a small cake designed to serve one person, which may be baked in a small thin paper or aluminum cup. As with larger cakes, frosting and other cake decorations, such as sprinkles, are common on cupcakes. What's good about cupcakes is that they come in sizes enough for just one sitting. Unlike cakes where you have to slice it, cupcakes allows you to taste as much other variety as you want without ruining an entire cake.
I've been longing to write about Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes for the past weeks already since I was there at their restaurant in Eastwood, Libis Quezon City with my friends but the several out-of-town travels and daily events always kept me from sitting in front of my computer to write about it.
Its the hardest article to write about - the story about my dining experience with some fancy cupcakes and coffee concoctions to satisfy my cravings for the best tasting sweets and drinks.
Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes definitely made an impression, and a worthy piece to write about, which makes it really hard just to sit down and write some simple paragraphs.
Aside from the proliferation of coffee and milk tea shops, cupcake shops are also widespread in the Philippines. Many are even offering cupcakes on a per order basis via home business setup only. Meaning, they have no physical store that you can visit. You can just search online for your order (mostly available through their Facebook page), text or pm the cupcake site owners and the pretty little cupcakes of varied designs will be delivered right at your doorsteps. Large orders may require a down-payment for assurance. Convenient, fast and usuallyvery affordable since they do not pay any rental fee for a physical store.
So I have to be impressed with Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes since they created a store of their own where people can ogle at the lovely adorable cupcakes, select among the coffee concoctions, and then sit down with friends while chatting about the latest issues. The store opened last July 2012 and have attracted a great number of customers since then prompting them to open another store soon in a new location.
They have their own set of customers, basically those that hold office at their building location or nearby establishments and offices. There is a big difference of having a place to hang-out, and take note, with an ambiance that's quite unique - outdoor setting inside a building entrance. The interior was done by Cynthia & Ivy Almario. They wanted to give it an outdoor feel, but without the heat and the pollution.
You have a choice among the different coffee blends, and you can buy cupcakes in a box on a per piece, half-dozen or a dozen.
Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes also has some unique offering on occasion. They have different selection of unique items that they would normally put on display for their customers.
There's also other choices aside form the coffee and cupcakes. Great if you want to try out something different with your coffee or cupcake.
The first mention of the cupcake can be traced as far back as 1796, when a recipe notation of "a cake to be baked in small cups" was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons. The earliest documentation of the term cupcake was in “Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats” in 1828 in Eliza Leslie's Receipts cookbook.
Decorating cupcakes can be fun and easy with a quick icing of smooth butter cream and topped with colorful sprinkles, or more detailed with beautiful flowery designs like roses or daisies.
"A great cupcake starts with a great cake" is their tag line - they take special pride in the moistness and taste of their cake that many customers have commented that it's actually good enough to be eaten even without frosting. They developed their frosting to be different from the usual butter or shortening-based icing found on other cupcakes.
Thank you to the owners, Patrick and Gigi Gaerlan, of Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes for allowing us to try out their specialties. It's actually a partnership among Gigi Gaerlan, Joey Luna, Dondi Gaite, and Cynthia & Ivy Almario.
Bottomline: Do expect me to come back again for more, and I will highly recommend them to my friends, relatives and followers as well.
This means their sweet treats are well deserving of a thumbs up - make that two thumbs up!!!

The article as a whole was written articulately. However sometimes it seemed to be circuitous. The writer was trying to describe the restaurant “Gigi Coffee and Cupcakes” but it looked like he was giving us a lecture of the history of cupcakes. Even though the article was related to cupcakes it would have been better if he wrote more about the restaurant itself. I still give him credit for finding time to inform the readers a little bit about the history behind the restaurant. It would have been better if his introduction was about the restaurant, since the headline gives an impression that the article would about the restaurant. Some of the sentences were ornate but still understandable. And his sentences were succinct.
