General's Lechon: Its the Best Lechon I've Tasted So Far
Wazzup Pilipinas !
I got invited to taste a lechon brand a few days ago and I can't believe we've been missing out on this particular brand for a long time now. Like what the owner said, the taste was "heavenly" and anyone will be willing to indulge on a lechon feast even for just today once they taste it for themselves. It was truly the tastiest lechon I've tasted so far, and believe me when I say, I've tasted a lot already.
For every special celebration, it will not be complete without the grandest meal you can think of. The lechon has been a custom already in the Philippine culture as the most festive way to make an occasion so uber special and memorable.
Serve the best dishes and appreciate the sparkle in everyone's eyes as they dig in to a feast meant for the gods. Heck, even the popular lechons from Cebu were no match to the delightful taste of General's Lechon.
General’s Lechon started as a home-based lechon business ventured by couple Brian and Lynett Ong whose recipe originates from San Carlos City in Negros Occidental that comes in different flavors namely Original, Curry, Garlic and Chili-Garlic.
From its humble beginnings as a small home-business way back 2007, I've learn that it is now one of the most loved lechon brand in the metro and was ranked as the no. 1 lechon of Spot.ph last 2012.
Foodies and lechon connoisseurs are surely raving about their lechons that comes in four types of flavors: the Original, Chili-Garlic, Curry and Garlic.
What is the secret of General's lechon?
1. They use native pigs from a swine farm just at the outskirt of Manila. There may be countless of lechon marketers around but what set theirs apart is the quality of swine they use. It should be native pigs only.
2. Brian applied some science and engineering principles to calculate and thus maintain the consistent flavor similar to an authentic Negros-style lechon.
3. A mix of selected herbs and spices prepared by Lynett was put into the belly of the lechon. The lechon is subtly spiced and seasoned with lemongrass, salt and leeks, among other secret ingredients.
4. The lechons were carefully cooked on charcoals from sustainable woods until they turn to a brassy golden reddish brown color.
5. The stuffing inside permeates to the meat and the heat slowly burns the fat there is to the native pigs.
With expansion on the top of their game, more products are now filling up their store shelves to give the utmost satisfaction in enjoying lechon in various ways from jarred Lechon Paksiw to Atchara. Lynn also have put her hands in roast chickens, which like their lechons are flavored. “It is always advised that calls are to be made ahead, like a week to reserve at least one lechon for an event, for regular customers know how to order because orders tend to pile up on our calendars. We do respect each of our clients specific needs for their lechon degustation,” said Bryan Ong.
The idea of a lechon business bloomed out of love for the owners, Bryan and Lynn. With all the fascination of the people for our country’s beloved roast pig, it had somehow convinced them to bring a different take on lechon delectation in Manila. In its truest form, a pig, removed of its innards, cleansed and put on a stake and roasted on smoldering spit-fire from charcoals, has always been the highlight of many feasts. The superstar of any rural gatherings such as fiestas, which marks the way Filipinos take pride in its own tradition in the culinary scene.
General’s Lechon is an inspiration paying homage to its ancestral beginning, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. It is where Bryan Ong had her wife tried the best tasting lechon she had. Though not a big fan of lechons, she fell in love with the local Negros-style lechon. Since then she craved for it, and what can love not do, just to please his beloved. After coming back to Manila, they had Bryan’s family lechonero come over and prepare lechon for them.
The couple experimented with more than 50 different lechons to perfect the one the couple like the most. Their backyard in Paranaque was transformed into a lechonan just to make sure they give out their best products.
The lechon skin "deadly" but "crispylicious" - ooopppsss! I'm not talking about a fried chicken brand, so let's just say "crispylicking" good!
Seriously, taken in moderation, its the most "heavenly", not literally, experience you'll get in your search for the perfect lechon. You don't really need to go far or order from Cebu, they are right here in Metro Manila and would be happy to serve your lechon needs.
Make your celebration truly a marvelous one by having the best in lechon in Metro Manila.
The "tanglad" and garlic could be seen coming out from the lechoin's belly. They must have used several kilos just to make sure their customers really get the spiciest and extremely tastiest lechon ever.
Some lechon makers are stingy with their spices, but the couple make sure they give their customers satisfaction so they would surely come back and order for more.
They were serious when they said the spices permeates within the lechon, as every part is truly tasty, especially the garlic-flavored lechon we tried. I was sold at the first bite, and would have eaten more if I wasn't watching my diet.
Instead they were very generous in giving me the lechon' head to take home with me.... to become the "lechon paksiw" or "sisig" later, and enjoyed by the rest of my family.
We were fortunate enough to have been invited to the opening and blessing of its outlet in Makati, which is located at the 2nd floor of the Petron Gas Station in EDSA corner Pasay Road of Makati City.
The store will be a drop point for all lechon orders in the Makati area. People can also buy lechon's in a per kilo basis.
We also encouraged the couple to try serving lechon with rice or bread for customers who would like to dine while taking a break off their driving or after they've filled up with gas, its time to fill up their stomachs as well.
And what could be better than a fill of their great tasting lechon that's already delectable even without any sauce. But, of course, they have two kinds of sauces for those people who wants their lechon "saucy".
So do I need to convince you more? Don't take my word for it. The best proof is to try it for yourselves, and be amazed of the sensational taste. Believe me when I say you'll keep on munching on their lechon until the last bite, and then order for more, more and more!
