"The cakes and pastries of Sans Rival in Dumaguete have really no rival. Thanks to Trinidad “Tita Trining” Teves-Sagarbarria, the founder of Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries, and her children who inherited the same passion and continued the baking legacy she founded.
What started as a small-time garage bakeshop in 1977, Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries evolved into a cozy cafe. Now considered as a local icon providing Negrenses with the sweet and deliciously baked goodies for more than three decades now. To date, the bakeshop has become the place to go for a guaranteed sweet and appetizing food experience.
Who would dare resist their trademark Silvanas or their house specialty Sans Rival, their best sellers. Personally, I have never tasted Silvanas as creamy as theirs before, I fell in love at first bite, and the taste got even better as I came near to my last." - lakwatsero.com
I definitely have to agree with the previous statements. My first bite of the famous Sans Rival Silvanas and Sans Rival was indeed a dreamy delight worthy of a few more bites.
Rizal Avenue boasts of a Cakes and Pastries resto that offers the best sweet treats in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. By the way the resto also serves meals. We had lunch there while we were visiting Dumaguete and so let me tell you the story of our dining experience.
It was good to dine and hang-out at the resto since the they also offer free Wi-Fi internet connection. But I'm afraid too much sweet may be bad for my health as I've heard beforehand that you couldn't really resists the sweet treats the resto offers.
Blue is the color of the napkins on the table since Sans Rival is a combination of white and blue hues.
Several cakes and pastries on display. Each one probably amazingly tastes as good as they look.
The decors at the resto are classy silver and black. Guess where in the Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries restaurant I took the picture of this spherical light lamp with the striped yellow and orange background below. You'll only know the answer if you visit the place.
A silver sun mirror also adorned one wall of Sans Rival.
Similar spherical light lamps adorned the ceilings of the resto.
This is me taking pictures of myself with the mirror at the lavatory of the restaurant.
We were table number 10. From a range of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, I would rate the resto facilities with a high score of 9.
Food is now served! We have pasta with white sauce, burger patties with eggs on top, a vegetable salad, a pork dish and some fish fillet.
Of course, as bloggers, we had to take pictures first of the food before we eat any of them yummy meals. What can I say about the food after we ate them. Well. nothing fancy, nothing special. In fact there was this humorous part were we made fun of the pasta as lacking in white sauce - or they totally have forgotten to put any - and the vegetable salad with noodles probably needed some hot steaming broth to make it a noodle soup instead...hehehe
The counter was extremely busy as it was lunch time, but surprisingly there was a lot of customers that day even though it was a weekday.
Lastly served as a dessert was of course the specialty of the resto aside from the Sans Rival : The Silvanas.
I ordered a box of these for take-out!...as well as my other companions!
If not for these sweet specialties, I wouldn't be coming back to Sans Rival.
I only knew during our next visit at Rizal Avenue that there was another Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries store nearby just a few steps aways. I think this was the original store, and that the first one we went to along Rizal Avenue was a newer one. I think this one only serves the cakes and pastries and not the meals.
Similar to the first one where we had lunch, the indoor decors of this store were really creative.
I kinda like these three illustrations of cakes displayed at the dining area of the restaurant. Really great drawings. I am impressed.
The Jam Square promotional poster was really appetizing.
Again several cakes and pastries were on display. I sure wish I could taste them all but no luck.
A bonus attraction was this statues of nuns in a boat just across the street from where the Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries restaurant was.The Landing of the First St. Paul of Chartres Sisters. Apparently this was the site where they first landed ashore.
And a few more steps was a view of the sea with some ships. That is actually where the ferry that will take us to Bohol is located.
Keep this going please, great job!

oh my! the, uh, healthy lady at the counter is still the one that manned their original hole-in-the wall store almost a decade ago!
