The people laughed at Sen. Miriam Santiago's statements because they were INTENDED as jokes. However, even if Sen.Tito Sotto was just trying to make people laugh (and I don't think this is the case), it's not much of a laughing matter simply because he made a mistake with trying to connect the "no plastics" rule to the use of condoms.
If people laughed at him, it most certainly is because they know for themselves that Sen. Sotto did not research well enough. Heck, even if it could be Googled right away.
Sotto really did not intend to crack humor. It was his pure idea but sadly, it wasn't a clever one.
The country is way below governments of other nations considering that we are run by ignorant and hypocrite leaders whose views are considerably narrow. But the Constitution does not require high educational achievement for whatever position is there in politics.
Yes, Erap has definitely nothing to say with educational backgrounds of previous presidents. But, if we examine it well, Erap has made wiser decisions than Arroyo who's academically matured. Despite of Erap's inadequacy in academics, he didn't make it a point to humiliate himself in public showing he is totally stupid compared with Sotto.
We don't demand leaders who are academically profiled, what we practically need are leaders who know how to weigh things out, who know how to value things in a macro perspective, who have hearts for Filipino welfare and who know the very meaning of things. I highly appreciate the opinion of others so please respect also my opinion.
