The Asia Society Philippine Foundation Inc. held the awarding ceremony for the asia Society Photo Challenge last Wednesday, November 7 at the Atrium of the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, EDSA.
The finalists, guests and friends of Asia Society gathered for a night of festivities and cultural entertainment as various Asian countries were showcased through the Taichi Quan performances of the Confucius Institute of Ateneo de Manila and the Asian Institute of Liturgy and Music Chorale.

I think they gave us around five performances of different songs from different countries like Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia

The entries were judged according to its relevance to the theme (40%), visual impact (30%), composition/technical quality (15%) and originality (15%). The selected judge panel consisted of professional photographers with the likes of Mr. Neal Oshima - International Award winning photographer, Mr. Francisco "Paco" Guerrero - photographer and host of GMA TV's "What I See" Show, Ms. Isa Lorenzo - photographer and founder of Silverlens Galleries and Mr. Jun Miranda - president of the Philippine Center for Creative Imaging and canon EOS Brand Ambassador.

With the multitude of entries that were submitted, below are the winners of this year's Asia Society Photo Challenge:
First Place Winner
Entry No. 018 - Carnelian Wonder by Jose Miguel Santillan won 1st place
Among the sea of somber faces getting ready for one of the multi-cultural dancing competitions during this year’s Kadayawan Festival in Davao City, I managed to capture this boy’s expression of gratitude and wonder. I realized the Asian identity may compromise of different traditions and an array of beliefs and cultures, but we are united by the common emotions we feel whether it be sorrow and grief or the joy and delight encapsulated by this boy’s smile as he gazes at the sky above.
Second Place Winner
Entry No. 010 - Taste of Asia by Aldrin Cuadra won 2nd place
Food is important part of every festive celebration. Asian cuisine are not only rich in savorful taste but also rich with cultural flavor. We enjoy conversation while savoring the tasteful Asian delicacies.
Third Place Winner
Entry No. 020 - Bayanihan by Don Clavo de Comer won 3rd place
Bayanihan, a local word from the Philipines where people gather together to help each other.
The People's Choice Award Winner
Receiving a total of 4482 votes, the People's Choice Award was determined via online and ballot voting.
Entry No. 009 - The Camaraderie and Masterpiece by Romado Javillonar won the People's Choice Award
Despite of the language barrier, asian nation unite in the art of pottery. Being a cradle of civilization, art has continue to spread and passed on to each generation that even with the arrival of new technology, some still prefer to use human hands to produce state of the art of masterpieces, because these are products made not only with clay but with friendship and with great camaraderie.
