She's Only Sixteen : New Alternative Rock Band Media Launch

Young men with very high hopes for a promising career in the music industry

There's a new band in the Metro, or should I say "boy" band, for the band members are truly young - in fact they're all still in school!

Creating a buzz in the local music scene, for now, but soon even international (if they get lucky), are four young teens in their college years composed of Roberto Sena (plays the guitar and is the lead vocal and likes to be called by his last name), Anjo Silvoza (bass),  Andrew Panopio (guitar) and King Puentespina (drums).

You've probably seen them already guesting in Myx  Philippines Daily Top 10, and actively promoting their songs which includes Amygdala, Mr, Schemer, Roll the Dice and their first single Dying To Meet You. Their self-titled debut EP also contains an acoustic version of their first single.

Roberto Sena is the lead vocalist

Their common denominator is that they all came from the same high school : Ateneo High School

Right now two of them are in Ateneo De Manila University, and the other two went to De La Salle University. But they still remained the best of "barkadas" because of their passion for rock, pop, bad jokes, coffee, debauchery, "kalandian", and their deep commentary on love and life.

Real buddies since their high school days, and already performing gigs before they were discovered by their Talent Manager, Gian Carlo Vizcarra, performing at one of their gigs, and now a huge step forward with their self-titled debut EP managed by Orion Entertainment and carried by Universal Records.

Orion Entertainment is also the Management Agency of Noel Cabangon, Kimpoy Feliciano, Jordan Bautista, Jason Fernandez, Six Part Invention, Jensen Gomez, Runmanila, Aspen Way; International Agent of Sam Concepcion, Karylle, and Sponge Cola.

Their musical influences includes The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Phoenix, MGMT, Radiohead, among many others.

The name of the band just came from one of the first song that they sang as a group, "She's Only Eighteen" and with no other special meaning behind it. They just thought to stick with the name which they have been using for two years already as an indie band. Now they're into mainstream already and would love to work with other artists. Top on the list, they say,  is Rico Blanco, and also Spongecola which they will do a front act soon at their concert sometime November.

Sena, the one who wrote most of the songs in their debut album, says ideas for a song usually comes to him even while riding the Light Rail Transit (LRT) on his way to and from school. He would quickly grab his mobile phone and record the lyrics  that comes into mind.

Speaking of school, Sena says they can surpass the challenge of balancing their school work with band rehearsals and gigs. Though their talents should be maximized while they're at their peak, a college education is still the best fallback when they lose the fame.

When the guys are inspired to collaborate, they usually hang out at King's house to create and play their music, sometimes at Andrew's.

The band answers the many questions thrown at them

The guys performed three songs for us that day at CenterStage Tomas Morato Quezon City, and we found ourselves impressed with the beats and lyrics. Truly inspiring to have these young men courageous enough to make a name for themselves in an industry hat was said to be dying, if not dead already. Andrew refuses to accept its dead, instead he said "OPM is there and we just have to look for it, in fact its bustling!"  Thank you for the positive thinking!

Thank you for the copy of the album, and after listening to all the tracks, I have to say they do rock, and may become one of the many great OPM artists soon.

A copy of their first self-titled debut EP were given to everyone who attended the media conference

New talents would continue to be discovered and try their luck among the many other equally talented hopefuls for a  promising career in the music industry. I guess what will make them rise up and stand out among the rest would be a constant offering of new and unique music fit to the taste of the Filipino....or they could try to set a new trend by surprising the public with controversial never before heard beats or some sensational lyrics. What amazes me a lot is these talents keep getting younger and younger each year, it would no longer be a surprise if suddenly you hear some grade school students recording their first song in the next few years.
