Wazzup Pilipinas!
I've heard about Snapchat from a young OPM band when they were using it one night while we were waiting for other media friends for the intimate media gathering they organized. They were having fun doing selfies while manipulating them with several graphically animated enhancements that are somewhat humorous and laughable.
The only reason why I never continued using it was because none of my colleagues were using it, or I believe I was more into the other social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - my top three which is the same for almost everyone in the Philippines.
One probable reason was because posts had an expiration. This means they would not exist forever online. Your post will soon be gone unless you repost it. But I wanted the opposite, the more content that I publish, the better for exposure and media mileage.
I may be wrong when I later found out that there's an online influencer by the name of CyreneQ (Cyrene Quiamco) who's been very successful using Snapchat. I was amazed when she personally mentioned the amount that she earns through the use of Snapchat.
Learning she was a graphics artist before, I now know why she got into using Snapchat because of the numerous creativity made possible by the social app.
To be lined up with other famous celebrities, CyreneQ has made a name for herself which got me totally at awe when I also found out that she was Filipino. Please do watch my exclusive interview with her here or at our YouTube channel at http://www.YouTube.com/wazzuppilipinas where I asked her to give some tips for an effective social media engagement. I also asked her to choose between naughty or nice and she explained why she have chosen the former.
Her mother and sister were actually there at the event that I attended, specifically the National Digital Arts Awards (NDAA) 2017 Call for Entries cum media launch in Manila organized by Globaltronics and Brand Guerilla PH in partnership with Synergy88 Digital, and other partners who were in the audience or not present at the event that night.
The event was held at the Globaltronics office located at 349 Ortigas Ave., near cor. EDSA Wack Wack, Greenhills across Columbia Tower.
NDAA 2017 made waves by doing several launches in the regions beginning with Cebu, then in Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, etc. CyreneQ, being the NDAA brand ambassador, joined many of these regional launches to also conduct talks at the different locations.
I actually started downloading the Snapchat app after meeting her and would soon start using it so maybe I could also reach a status of fame like her someday.
During the event, we were able to ask CyreneQ plenty of questions while waiting for her demo reel to be displayed on screen. I even asked her why people on Snapchat love her of which she answered because she keeps herself engaged with her fans. Brands continue to sponsor some of her Snapchat posts where she earns a great deal. She said she is also coming out with a book soon so that would be something to look forward to. I hope to get a copy when it becomes available.
The NDAA this year would have an official hashtag of #ChangeIsHereNow because the contest introduces new categories like Digital Games, 2D Animation, and other sub-categories that promises to be ore competitive. Also, both individual and team initiatives will be included to make it more relevant to industry standards. It will also allow participation of Philippine nationals outside the country making the contest global in nature.
This is probably one of the reasons why CyreneQ was chosen to be the brand ambassador for NDAA so she couldn reach an international audience outside of the Philippines. We are capitalizing on her global influence to attract enthusiasts and potential contestants from our neighboring countries to send their entries so we could really say we are awarding the best of the best all over the world.
With the entry of Synergy88 Digital in the NDAA, it would mean more opportunities for Filipino animators to show off their skills and flaunt it proudly for all the world to see. It is true that we have very talented animators within our midst but they are not fully recognized or less motivated due to limited opportunities to showcase their talents. Hopefully the NDAA would soon make their dreams and aspirations realized in the near future.
